Theodore Friedman

A professor of pediatrics and director of the Gene Therapy Program at UC San Diego, Theodore Friedmann authored a 1972 paper titled “Gene Therapy for Human Genetic Disease?” bringing attention to the potential of gene therapy. Friedmann develops model systems for human gene therapy, using gene isolation and characterization, constructing viral vectors, and replacing genetically altered cells in-vivo.
