South African molecular biologist Sydney Brenner confirms Jacob and Meselson’s messenger RNA hypothesis at the British Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge. Messenger RNA is the molecule that carries genetic information from chromosomes in the cell nucleus (in nucleated eukaryotic cells) to ribosomes where protein synthesis takes place.
